Shaffer's play, inspired by Pushkin's text Mozart and Salieri, focuses on the complex, almost mythical relationship between the two composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. A long-time theatrical hit, featuring various casts, Amadeus has, among other, won the ''Tony'' Award for best play, whereas in 1985, by adapting his play, Shaffer won an ''Oscar'' for best screenplay, based on which Miloš Forman made the film, which was nominated for 53 awards in total, of which it won 40... ''If all else goes by and disappears, this must remain'', said Salieri about Mozart's music at one point. Shaffer's play is a brilliant theatrical insight into the world of two people who altered each other's lives forever, and with it, changed the entire, not only musical, history...
